Poison Centers assisting with Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico Poison Centers in the Gulf states (FL, AL, MS, LA, TX) have been asked by CDC, ATSDR and the U.S. Coast Guard to assist the public and health care professionals in these States by responding to health-related questions and providing treatment advice for oil/dispersant-related exposures in the Gulf of Mexico.  Thirteen poison centers in these States have banded together to supply information and management advice for the public and health professionals and, as well, provide real time public health data to their own State's Department of Health and the CDC.  Likewise, the American Association of Poison Control Centers' National Poison Data System (NPDS) has been programmed to monitor/analyze poison center data in real time and report public health effects arising from this spill.

The Florida Department of Health has asked it's three poison centers in the State of Florida (Florida Poison Information Center Network) to assist them in their response to this incident.  The Centers in Jacksonville, Tampa and Miami have trained health professional staff ready to assist with any/all health-related questions and/or exposures related to the oil spill.

All of these federal and state agencies are asking the public and health professionals with health-related questions/concerns to use the existing nationwide PoisonHelp hotline available 24 hours a day:

This number will automatically connect you to the poison center covering your geographic area where a specially trained healthcare professional (nurse, pharmacist or physician) will assist you at any time.
